Why
Healthy Food. Every Person. Every Day. This is Second Harvest’s vision, and to make this a reality, we invite you to partner in a creative, local way to bring community members together to impact hunger. There are kids, families, and seniors in our community struggling with hunger every day and we believe that’s a problem worth solving.
What
Second Harvest will host families for a two and a half hour event consisting of one part service and one part family fun. For safety reasons, the age limit on this event is 8 years old.
The Volunteering
From 5:30-6:30pm, paid attendees will participate in a volunteer food sort activity in the volunteer center. The activity will vary from season to season depending on what food is available, but may consist of sorting through fresh fruits, vegetables, non-perishables, building food boxes, repacking bulk items, and more. The volunteer center is equipped with music to provide a fun atmosphere and the task will be family friendly.
The Food Fun
For the second part of the evening, from 6:30-8pm, families will be escorted to the Second Harvest Kitchen for some snacks and hands on fun. A light snack will be prepared by The Kitchen.
Three hands on stations in The Kitchen – each lead by a member of the kitchen team – families will rotate through each station
