Gourmet Cooking Class with Mark Steinmetz a Roaring Success

February 3, 2017

Last Thursday, the Kitchen at Second Harvest hosted its first gourmet cooking class of the year. Guests were greeted with a warm hello and a glass of wine. As everyone settled in, Mark Steinmetz of Clinkerdaggers began showing guests how to prepare some of the restaurant’s classic dished; delicious pea salad, followed by rich mashed potatoes, and chicken Dijon. Many guests were eagerly writing notes on recipe cards.

Throughout the night, Mark provided insight into how to make cooking a gourmet meal easy, fun, and delicious. He took questions throughout the demonstration and guests were then served a sample of all the food. While they enjoyed their meals, Mark came around to see if they had any further questions or comments.

The night was topped off by the burnt cream demonstration. Guests had the option of torching their own burnt creams with a cooking blow torch. Although many opted out, there were a brave few that took on the challenge! As the guests headed home they expressed their appreciation for the wonderful night of learning and delicious food, and the hopes that they could join us again soon.

The Kitchen plans to host monthly gourmet cooking classes. Different chefs and recipes will be featured each month. The proceeds of these classes will help to fund many other programs including youth nutrition classes, scratch cooking classes, and more for those in need. Join us February 24th as we host Chef Dane Rice of Charlie’s Produce for our next gourmet cooking class. Register under our classes and events tab, and stayed tuned for more to come!
