Second Harvest and the Union Gospel Mission share a common purpose – helping people in need. Add to that the fact that we’re practically next door neighbors, and you can see why we work together exceptionally well.
Both organizations are passionate about feeding the hungry. Second Harvest distributes over 2 million pounds of free food each month to 26 counties in Eastern Washington and North Idaho. UGM serves over 1,000 meals a day and is open to the public for lunch and dinner each day.
In order to increase awareness of hunger in our region and promote a healthy option for raising funds, Second Harvest and UGM are teaming up to sponsor The Hunger Run – a 5K family-friendly run/walk set for the first Saturday in April in the Spokane Valley.
Scheduled just one month before Bloomsday, we’re hoping to attract runners preparing for that 12K. The Hunger Run will be a timed event organized by Race Director Carrie Horton. Registered participants will receive a t-shirt and have the opportunity to fundraise for the two charities. The overall winners and top finishers in each age category will be acknowledged on the Hunger Run website.
